Chasing Red, Isabelle Ronin Review
Title: Chasing Red Series: Red #1 Author: Isabelle Ronin Publication Date: September 5th, 2017 Genre: Contemporary, New Adult |
1) I totally fell in love with the cover! Isn't it just so gorgeous? I literally would buy this book just for the cover alone.
2) I was so intrigued by the blurb, I knew this would be my kind of book and that I would really enjoy it. So, of course I immediately added it.
Funny thing is, like right after, I went on NetGalley to just check things and there it was! Just sitting there looking all pretty and waiting for me to request it. Obviously I immediately did and wanna guess what was the cherry on top? It was an immediate acceptance!! I was so freaking excited about this book, I started it that very same day. I kind fell in love with the story in the very first chapters, it was really well written and I was instantly so curious about both characters and curious to know the real person behind all that they were in that first appearance. I knew that there would be so much more to both of them and there really was. I fell in love with both Veronica and Caleb as they fell in love with each other. It was a slow burn for them and in fact, it still is and will continue to be for a while probably. You see Veronica is a virgin and she has a lot of issues about love and sex because of her past and also because of Caleb's reputation. She's afraid to fully open up her walls to Caleb and get screwed over. And that is exactly what happens, or is it? Pick up the book and find out what happens between these two, and what breaks them apart.
This was really good read, had a lot of funny moments and even sexy moments without they actually having sex. So if you're expecting smut, don't count on it. But really, this had me so intrigued and interested the whole time, I just had to keep reading just to see when Veronica would cave to Caleb. Also, to see what was gonna happen between them because of course I was already expecting the drama. It was obvious it was coming, and I was actually scared about it. They were just so cute together, I just wanted them to be happy and together and just give in to each other and stay together. But of course Isabelle had plans for these two, plans that had nothing to do with my wishes.
This book cannot be read as a Standalone, since it ends in a cliff-hanger. Yes, it does. I don't like them but unfortunately it's true. I'm dying to find out what happens next. I can't wait for the second book 'Always Red' !!
Warning!: The rest of this review, or well it's more of a rant, contains little spoilers. So read at your own discretion. Scroll down if you want to know my rating and read the blurb of the book. They can be found after my edit.
I had a feeling, when things were really good between them and it was all really sweet, that something big and bad was coming. It damn sure came. Boy was I pissed about it! I really wish it hadn't happened but of course it had to, it's the freaking plot of the story. I knew those two were gonna be trouble ( Justin and Beatrice ) , and I didn't like either of them right from their first appearance in the book. So of course, as you probably already figured out by my rant that something bad happened and it involved one of those two assholes I just mentioned above.
Everything could have been way less painful if Veronica had trusted Caleb.. what is a relationship without trust?
Caleb just needed Veronica to trust him or let him fully explain what happened but Veronica let her fear rule over both hers and Caleb's feelings and the trust that should have existed in their relationship. They both need to be honest with each other about their pasts and work on their issues and insecurities together. That needs to happen. But it's probably gonna be hard to do with everything else going on.
"You have to fight for something if you really want it. I have been chasing you -fighting for you- since the moment I met you. You kept pushing me away, but I never gave up. I wanted you to fight for me, just as I fought for you. But you wouldn't."
Reading this honestly broke my heart, I felt so much for Caleb. I know he was a man whore before Red but since he saw her, he had eyes for no one else but her. He was instantly a little in love with her and that love grew everyday and we got to see it and experience it. He really did fight for her all the way and he was so sweet to her, with her. She knew he loved her, but she just could not get over her issues and fears and that is heartbreaking. My heart hurt for both of them. Now, it's Veronica's turn to fight for Caleb and it's not gonna be easy, specially since it's not just their issues she needs to fight but two little bitches that are out to get them.
Also, I'm dying to know what really happened to Cameron and Kara, I hope to God we learn everything in the next book and they end up back together because I ship it!! Or if that doesn't happen, they better get their own book, you hear me Isabelle??
Rate: 4,2 / 5 stars - I would give this a 4,5 but I really hated that 'mistake' and really anything to do with both Justin and Beatrice-Rose. Ugh, I hate them and I get that it's literally the plot but they ruined the book a little for me. Why do they have to be so nasty and fake?! I hope Karma bites both their asses in the next book! Even though I know they will probably cause a lot more damage in the next book, before we get out desired HEA. I hope we do get an HEA. I'll die if we don't...
Blurb:
They said she was going to be my ruin...
Then let her ruin me.
Caleb Lockhart has everything—wealth, adoration, a brilliant future. Until a chance encounter with a siren in a red dress changes everything. Until he meets the woman he dubs Red.
Veronica Strafford's past makes it hard for her to trust anyone. Now, kicked out of her apartment, she reluctantly accepts Caleb's offer for a place to stay.
Caleb feels intensely drawn to Veronica. And, for the first time in his life, he really wants something—someone. Too bad Veronica's heart might just be the one thing Caleb can't win.
